Driving back from my parents' on thursday, the car overheated and shut off on the highway. Filled it up with coolant, and made it back to my place. Seemed like it was working alright til tonight, when I lost all power, and the car died while on the way home from work. Luckily, it shut off on a hill in front of my apartment, so I managed to coast down the hill, and parked across the road from my apartment. Checked the oil, and it was thick and beige. Before I checked the oil, I attempted to re start the car to get it onto the parking lot of the complex, but it wouldn't start..

Sorry to hear that..how many miles or km was on it?
Time to rad pressure test/ and see if u can find the exact leak location or could u see coolant leaking out while it was running?? Time 4 new wheels or consider rebuilding?

It almost rolled over to 278k kms. I couldn't see any leaks, but I think it has been burning coolant for a couple months now.. just not that bad. I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. Been looking on kijiji at some cheap beaters to last a few months. Found an 03 Malibu with 180k kms that needs a new batter, which I have. Only $300. That could be a possibility.

If u get time pull a valve cover off and have a look in there for starters!
I keep an eye on my coolant reservoir closely all the time. I know those pesky UIM/Lim gaskets (or may be caskets) scare me. I think I may want to replace mine next year for piece of mind insurance. I have had to add a cup of coolant every oil change. My oil still looks good ...but..I change my oil around 4000 km now..even with synthetics.

Like I said in the PM, it'* probably not worth my time/money to look into any further. With almost 300k on it, who knows what else is going to go wrong in the near future

The amount of money I have probably won't even cover the gas and snacks haha

the kit is 65, so for less than 100 with coolant and oil you can fix it, i would rather spend that then get some unknown car with who knows what other problems
