Default Another full day at the auto castle

Today was a good day, hot, sticky, and full of cars. Oh ya, and woman.

Savage came by with her VIBErator again. Oil, filter, trans fluid and filter. We were going to do the serpentine belt, but believe it or not, I really couldn't figure out how to get the darn thing off. I found the tensioner but it looks like there'* a cap over it, no bolt head. And I couldn't get the cap off. So we skipped that.

Here she is doing the trans filter. Wouldn't you know it, Billboost calls at this point to tell me about the shift kit he'* installing. Funny that we are both working on a transmission at some level at the same time. Scary.

Removing the filter. And stupid me didn't catch it. I scolded her after we were done. Can you guess what I missed? It can clearly bee seen in this picture.
P6130017.jpg

New filter going in. You can see what I missed in this picture as well.
P6130018.jpg

Just as I was going over the trans pan finishing the torque my next car pulls up. I'm laying there and I say, Hmm, sounds like a GP. Yep, a 03 GP coming over for a tune. Gave him a performance tune. Was able to get him 4 or 5 degrees of timing up high. He still has a few issues. He threw on my old cold box. I also heard a lot of noise every time he shifted from reverse to drive. So we looked around and found a front dog bone loose. Creaked a lot. Tightened that down. As soon as we pulled away he said it feels much better. He wound up with about 7* on the top, 2* over all. No pictures, sorry.

On to car, ok, truck #3

P6130019.jpg

New plugs and air filter. They haven't been changed in 50k, yes, you heard me right. 50k
P6130020.jpg

Still didn't run right, stalled out on me. So I started up and pulled back in to the shop. OK, I'll check the distributer cap. Took some work but I got it off. Ya, that don't look good.
P6130021.jpg

The center post was broken off.
P6130022.jpg

After fighting for a half hour getting the plug wires off, they tend to stick a bit after 50k miles. I got this, no more messing around with the wires.
P6130023.jpg

By the way, you have a exhaust leak. Can you fix that? Ya, let me look. They got the camera.
P6130024.jpg

Hey, your missing a stud here, look. Crud, I dropped the stud I had. Never did find it.
P6130025.jpg

And I really looked around too.
P6130026.jpg

Nope, can't find it.
P6130027.jpg

I'll bet it fell in that stupid little hole in the frame down there.

LOL, he got his money out of that cap and rotor. I think that tensioner cap uses a fancy tool. I had one such tensioner and attacked it with a pipe wrench. It worked.

I'll have to check next time I'm at autozone. It didn't look like the cap came off easy if at all. Stupid Toyota in sheep'* clothing.

If 50K is a long time without a tune up then... no wonder those sparkplugs were a pain to get off.

Dan, you work at a shop or are you doing this just for hobby or people can come to your house for this?

Also, I see the close up of the big red tongs and then the next one I see is with your rear up in the air, and I couldn't hold the laugh in. LOL!

Safety googles...if I'm not right..I'm still hoping to be kinda right.

Paul.. Dan and I both have found we like to help folks. We end up spending much of our free time working on cars for a very reasonable rate in comparison to most shops. Folks end up getting a much better service too.

Bill wins the prize. I'm a big stickler for safety.

Paul, as Bill said, we both do this on the side for the love of it. We make a little extra on the side which pays for tools, and software. This all helps others. We also push people to do there own work, or at least help so they also learn to maintain there own cars.
