Fastest Production Sedan
There was a similar thread on here before the CRASH. And I don't think this car was brought up due to the fact it was ruled out of the Competition because it had only 2 doors.
"Fastest Production Sedan Ever" ?
Circa 1987, the Buick GNX was GM'* fastest production sedan ever and remains among Detroit'* quickest and most collectible vehicles of all time.
There has been some discussion about the GNX claim. The first issue: "is it a sedan?", and finally- "is the boast true?".
Sedan - 1. an enclosed automobile body having two or four doors and seating four or more persons on two full-width seats.
So let'* suppose the GNX is a production sedan- is it still the fastest? In over 10 years of Car & Driver, The author couldn't find anything to the contrary. There have been some very fast sedans- BMW M5 & Jaguar XJR and it seems lately the M5 may be in contention for the title. It'* 0-60 and quarter mile times are very similar to the C&D 1987 article, but with faster mph through the quarter.
What'* your thoughts?

Buick Grand National'* and GNX'* aren't sedans, they're sport coupes,.....if you're talking American sedans,it would have to be the 400HP,Z06 engined Caddy CTS-V,[info from Car& Driver,9/03]..0-60 times of 4.7secs,1/4 mile in the low 13'*,and top speed in the low 160'*,....faster than both the BMW M-3 or M-5.John Heinricy,Director of GM'* high-performance-vehicle operations and a successful racer for more than 20 years, say'* he'* lapped the German Nordschleife((Northern loop of Germany'* legendary Nurburgring racetrack)in 8 minutes and 19 secs,....a better time than either M-car can turn.

If I had the money, E55 for the weekends and that purdy 01 M5 please.
400HP V8 in that M5, I believe it held the crown for the faster production "saloon" on the planet. That CTS-V is being built to fight the M5

Coupe - Usually a 2-door car with a fixed roof (as opposed to a convertible). However, 2-door cars sometimes are called sedans; these vehicles usually have a pillar, or post, between the driver'* (and passenger'*) side window and the quarter window. Vehicles without the pillar sometimes are referred to as hardtops.
Sedan - A term often used to describe any 4-door car. It also can be used to describe a 2- or 4-door car with a pillar, or post, between the driver'* (or passenger'*) side window and the quarter window. In this case, the pillar would differentiate a sedan from a hardtop.
