First I'll start off by saying I have been polishing since I was 15... I'm 31 now so it'* been a while. I have mentioned that I was taught the technique by a Old timer who started out with airplanes and over the years have picked up tricks and I want to say short cuts but not really.

So I'm outside polishing the car My ingredients nothing to harsh nothing to heavy just some 3M glaze (light) 3M swirl remover, 3M polish. Before you say anything ( I know ) WHY.. All three products are basically the same thing well... I will follow up with 2 or 3 coats of my newly acquired S100 wax. Anyways as im doing the Hood my neighbor is cutting his lawn I first started by taping everything off one panel at a time I start on the drivers side fender moved to half of the hood then the other half. As i get to the passenger fender Ipod stuck in my ear tap tap tap on my shoulder, I almost shat. myself theres is the guy from across the street.

After a 20 minutes and a ice cold beer He says you know i remember when I was young I used to do this for a living, But watching you it looks like you really enjoy this type of thing, And the way you move and handle the polisher its like you are one with the machine but also one with the car I have seen professionals do this and they do not move any where as freely as you. He said he admired watching me handle the buffer like it was apart of my hands and asked if I could do the same to his Zo6 (that lives under a cover). He was shocked when I said no i didn't go to school to learn this some was taught but most was self taught. So it looks like I will be polishing his Zo6 sometime this summer.

As he walked away he referred to me as an Artist lol

Oh man, you are in for a rude awakening with the Z06. From what I've read on detailing boards, Vettes have the hardest clear in the world. Most guys say it takes a dozen hours or more to do a moderately swirled car. But from polishing the rock clear of the Bonnie, I can't imagine it'* too much harder. Man is this paint a pain. I gotta say, I just bought some Menzerna polish, and holy cow it looks like it will work like a charm!

A dozen hours..... try start to finish 100% 3 days. and that was to perfection a light glaze detail and wax is around an afternoon. well then factor in taping everything that isn't yellow.

Yeah, we can compare technics...

i still have many hours left to polish my car to perfection. so far i have only dont the doors a half the roof, and that was only quick to get out dust and a bit of orange peel. i only did the first step to get my dul sanding marks out, so its nothing but swirle still


anyway, im rambling... Cool story

As of right now I have the roof and drivers door left. I'm not going at it to hard I'm just going over it enough to bring out the orange peel.. so I can show how bad it really is. Oh i did find that the passenger side of the car has some nice flake and the drivers side is ummmm BLUE.

On a side note to add..

you guys with experience might think I'm crazy but most of my work is preformed outside. Florescent lighting is good but to my eye the sun is better just means more water from the spray bottle.



As of now I guess you could call the Bleu Bomber "Sunkist".

Maybe I will do a how to or a write up

better get out and finish the roof before i lose the light.

A few years ago I sold my shop well my half to my partner. I would be in there from 6:30 am till around 8 or 9 at night I was the hands on guy. I would then come home to my garage and work on my fiberglass stuff, Clean the impy wash the truck you know It'* something I enjoy. I do have lights for a portable detailing set up but like I said, Until man finds away to Mock 100% pure sunlight the polishing will be done outside and this time of year 6am is just way to damp outside never mind freaking cold...

So that'* why my dad'* vette is such a huge B*TCH to clean up....

I got a set of halogens which work nice to show all the imperfections, but they aren't very good for giving a realistic lighting.
