Probably because that was what they had available that was relatively easy to fit a live axle into. I'm not even sure what it was!

Looks like an early 90s Hyundai to me....
I've seen one that built with a little camper on the back. Had a SBC up front, but the steering was done with a linkage runback across the motor, so it could be steered without having to lean way the hell out to either side taking corners...
