Peace isn't the absence of conflict, but the presense of freedom.
For without Freedom, there can be no peace

I don't know. Maybe it'* because they volunteered to become Rangers, but not neccessarily to die.

Could be a "typo". Kinda hard to erase marble engravings...

Plus, not much in the military is "of your own accord". You're pretty much told what you will do....

You' have to ask the Ranger Association to know for sure...

Any special forces in the US military are volunteer. So those that have gone above the bar and beyond have done of thier own accord.

"SUA SPONTE"

"of their own accord"

it is the Ranger Motto!

We all serve "of our own accord"

no one held a gun to my head.

i serve to protect those who can't and won't to preserve our way of life - Freedom!

edited to add below:

Of Their Own Accord unabashedly relates the heroics routinely performed by the elite “Charlie Rangers” of the 75th Infantry.
