I can't tell you if you should fix it or sell it.
You should decide that for yourself.
I would recommend should that you decide to get another car is to carefully inspect it and look at how many owners the car has.
anything more than two, I would walk
<----second owner and loving it.

Haha, I'm not getting another car... This post was made out of angst and was just a way for me to vent.... Believe me, I needed to I'm pretty sure what one of the issues is, not sure what the loud humming is, but I'm hoping it'* something simple. Meh, I was just mad that after all that work I did, something else went wrong... But hey, life goes on...

An Impala of that generation, isn't *too* far removed from a bonneville.
Cars are only as reliable as you'll help them be. These days anything is reliable built within the last 5 years or so IMO.
There are plus' and minus' for both import and domestics.
My 'dub has had a few issues, but all have been taken care of perfectly by my dealer. I got an EOS for 24 hrs since a coolant fitting that was replaced was too close to the white hot turbo... Just wish it wasn't 10F when I had it...
Don't look at how much you've put in it, use that information to base how much it WILL cost. Anything you've fixed until now is a sunk cost, and irrelevant to a financial decision.

dude if i had a half a penny for every time i have been through what you are going through right now i would be a millionare
ok
i had my moms 93 olds delta 88
she traded it in for a plymoth voyager that went through transmissions
then i got my 91 olds 98 with an l67
it was a great car man
that car when you started it up it returned the favor
yes i quoted that from the cadallac commercial
i could run that thing all week long and wot
and it would break or any thing
then it got totalled by a deer cuz i hit the deer and then went into a ditch and hit a tree
luckly the car took the beating and sadly the insurance company classified it as totaled
so my dad said you can use my truck (99 *-10) that thing was great on gas but slow as a snail
finally i got my car
90 pontiac 6000 one of the very few still alive
which in translation means it is hard as hell to find a part for it
i bout the car with a crap radiator
cooling fans didnt work
head liner sagging the whole bit
FOR 350 BUCKS dude i couldnt find another car that RAN reasonablly
for that much i bought that car almost 6 months ago and
since then i have put 2,000 dollars into it
and i still have to keep working on it
now im sure all of us here at bc can say the same thing that your saying right now
weve all been there
the way i see it is keep plugging away at it and some day your car will be were you want it to be
it isnt how much you have put into it or how much you saved by buying this car it is how many fun times you have had in it and how much you can say YOU'VE done to it
so bottom line is its up to you
i think that your car is great and you should treasure it cause if you get rid of it now just to save you hassle some day down the road you are going to be in the same boat with a different car
as said before cars are a B$%$#^^ eh
its not what you have had to replace its how youve gone about replaceing it
my vote in short
Stick it out cause if you get rid of it youll be in the same situation later and be spending even more money that you dont have on a car you hate even more than the one that you had before
*my hands hurt*
