Default Just got back from Ireland..shocking facts on gas prices....

If you think we pay a lot for gasoline over here.....try living over in Ireland/Europe!Gas(petrol,as they say) cost them 1 Euro per liter(they sell gas by the liter)which is $1.20 US,....five gallons of gas(18.925 liters)costs roughly $23.66 US!!!,....to fill up a typical Bonneville tank(70liters)would cost right around $87.50!!!!.Needless to say, most people drive around in TINY cars(many, many cars I've never seen or even heard of)with 1L,1.4L,and 1.5L turbo-diesels.I guess we don't realize how lucky we all have it in the US,as far as gas and car prices goes.......just for a little reality check,a Nissan 350Z sells for 64,995 Euros(or $77,994 US),and a Toyota Rav-4 goes for 28,450 Euros(or $34,140 US),and a 2.4L VVT-i Camry sells for 37,690 Euros(or $45,228 US

It was always high, especially in Germany. Everyone (Americans) would get gasoline coupon books if they needed to purchase gas on the economyo. I geuss thats why so many people rode bicycles.

Gas isn't high there, it'* held artificially low here, by the govt to promote driving, car sales, and the growth of cities (urban sprawl).

Drivers in Ireland also pay a fairly high tax/registration fee to put a car on the road,it goes by the car'* engine size/cc'*,...the average little econo-box(1.4,1.5,1.8L)pays something like 380 Euros(approx $450US)per year,.....and now they are coming out with a 'carbon tax'.....you have each car strictly tested for emissions... and the more carbon the vehicle puts out....the more tax you have to pay ,.....maybe that'* why you see a lot of Small motorcycles running around.[btw: a new small displacement Suzuki(I think a 450cc)cost over 7,000 Euros($8750 US) ,......saw a guy on a Yamaha 1200 V-Max......he must have been one of the 'well-to-do' crowd :?

When I was last in England in 2002, I rented a Volkswagon Jetta and it cost $90 CAN ($69 USD) to fill it up

The US must have one of the lowest gas prices in the western world. In most other countries, including Canada, gasoline is heavily taxed. Here in Montreal 94 octane is about $0.98 / Litre ($2.92 USD / US Gallon) with more than half the price being taxes levied by 3 levels of government.

Cheers,
