I highly doubt anything will happen. Draft has been a hot topic even before the war, just not made public like this. After Clinton'* downsizing of just about every base over seas and here in conus, troops were at a high demand. All services have actually had a 'surplus' in expected signups this last year.

I'm already 18... I'm screwed. I don't care, I AM afraid of dying in some dumbass war. I'm not ashamed to admit it. Fear is what makes us human... Joining the army and such is fine. It'* your choice. But when they force us to fight for crap we don't believe in it leads to problems... I'm willing to bet if the draft occurs.. the jails will be filling up... very few people think this is a valid war ( I believe its less than 35%).
Austrailia is sounding really nice about now.. besides.. they have Skylines and Holdens..
I don't mean to start a political thingy.. so don't be a 'hata'

I find it amazing how the US congress is trying to pass this new bill to draft youth in service is being passed without the people really being informed, and then sweeping it under the rug... :?
Why does this man still have his job?
btw John Manley was a part of the Chretien gov't, the country is now under Paul Martin and we are in elections, I highly doubt Canadians will allow any political platform of any candidate that supports the US draft.
The pentagon has quietly begun a public campaign to fill all 10,350 draft board positions and 11,070 appeals board slots nationwide.. Though this is an unpopular election year topic, military experts and influential members of congress are suggesting that if Rumsfeld'* prediction of a "long, hard slog" in Iraq and Afghanistan [and a permanent state of war on "terrorism"] proves accurate, the U.*. may have no choice but to draft.
College and Canada will not be options. In December 2001, Canada and the U.*. signed a "smart border declaration," which could be used to keep would-be draft dodgers in. Signed by Canada'* minister of foreign affairs, John Manley, and U.*. Homeland Security director, Tom Ridge, the declaration involves a 30-point plan which implements, among other things, a "pre-clearance agreement" of people entering and departing each country. Reforms aimed at making the draft more equitable along gender and class lines also eliminates higher education as a shelter. Underclassmen would only be able to postpone service until the end of their current semester. Seniors would have until the end of the academic year.

Okay, so I'll move to Canada NOW, before this takes effect Jim, doesn't your family wanna adopt me for a few years???
This is BS, and I hope it doesn't get through. I support the troops, NOT the war. I'm tired of Bush trying to fix Daddy'* problems. I don't know who I will be voting for this election, becase I don't feel that either Bush or Kerry deserves MY vote, nor anyone else'*.

Your right Brougham, if ya dont like it, just move. If your not part of this nation then you dont have all the rights to go with it, nor does the goverment have the right to draft anyone they like to. The war is a lost cause, Saddam is out and most of them dont respect us anymore, but the troops always have my support. I'll take my chances because I want to remain an American, even though living in Canada sounds kind of cool! But I will keep on saying, dont stress over this draft deal, got bigger things to worry about then congress

Lemme just make something clear.
I too support every single US troop and allied troop over there, I dont however support the actions of abuse on prisoners that has been such a hot topic lately. I dont blame the soldiers, they follow orders, I blame the US military and its tactic.
Every man and woman over there is fighting to the teeth for a cause that half of them cannot justify anymore, and its sad to see the honest efforts go unnoticed. Instead of the world remembering the American efforts in the middle east as a push for good, it will be remembered negatively....that is truly sad.
Do we honestly think the draft will solve these problems?
As an outsider I cannot relate but I hate to see my American brothers and sisters sacrifice their lives for this "effort"
LMFAO! John Herry for president....eff John Kerry...bwhhahahahah

I will do anything and everything in my power to avoid the draft shall it be passed. I don't know what that means yet, but I refuse to let the government make decisions for me that I have the right to make myself. How 'free' of a country is this if you don't have a choice when it comes to fighting in a war? Especially when Congress is trying to pass these bills secretly. This sh*t angers me beyond belief! I support the troops 200%, but I will never support the draft. I find it unbelievable that Congress does not see the problems the draft will cause in this country if it is enacted again.
