Unhappy Goodbye Pontiac, Saab, Hummer, and GMC

I heard that Hummer, Pontiac, Saab, GMC and possibly Saturn are slated to meet the same demise as Oldsmobile. My dad said he read that GM had announced it a few days ago but he couldn't remember which newspaper had reported it. Anyone have more info?

That was the authors speculation in an article proposing the big three all join up as a single company. Those brands were the ones he said should be dumped.

Yes, pure speculation by someone who doesnt seem to have researched much. GM just made an agreement late Oct. with the AFL/CIO that would allow them to close two plants in the not to distant future. Under these binding agreements (they are a done deal) GM will continue to build the Pontiac Solstice roadster in Wilmington, Del. thru 2011, then transfer production to Bowling Green, KY. Also guaranteed is the G6 production at the Orion plant thru 2013. (Source~Motor Authority) It seems the G5/Cobalt brands are headed for doom, USA Today reports both are finished at this models year-end. AutoWeek reported that GM plans to concentrate it'* Pontiac brand on pure performance cars and get it totally out of the small car business.

With the Big 3 headed back to Washington this week and posturing in the press the most negative possible garbage as they whimper for their supposed livelyhood,.... expect to hear some tall tales and a flood of crocodile tears. What happens in the end here is pure speculation as the saga goes on, and on.

Must be some truth to that report. Just heard on the morning news that Part of GM'* "Plan" to be presented to Congress is the possibility that Hummer/Saab units be sold, Saturn brand shut down, and Pontiac to become a specialty performance brand and ditch badge engineered duplicates that caused alot of this mess. (Jeeeez, aint that what she was suppose to be all along.) Of Course,.... it aint over till the fat lady sings. The fat lady wants a 550HP, LSA powered full sized GTO.

Can Fat Lady say, Got Boost? !!!

i'm all-for Pontiac becoming a specialty performance brand. i think the G5 is a disgrace. and the vibe is a nice little car but doesn't belong as a pontiac.
