Hey, as long as Chrysler stays afloat for another 7,000 miles, I'm good to go

Pretty bold. Might work for them. SHows confidence in the product. And considering most people don't keep a new car for more than 5 or 6 years anyway, the risk is not THAT huge for them.
Pretty savvy, if you ask me.

You know full well someone in one of those two companies has their fingers in the cookie jar, if you take my meaning. It has ENRON written all over it!
Their Tranny'* aren't like they used to be (stupidly bad).

But Mercedes is trying to sell the Chrysler part now anyways... I think the merger failed because they didn't really merge. The whole point of the merger was to bring quality parts, and new thinking to Chrysler and Dodge and all them, share powertrains, but still hit all their markets. Some powertrain stuff finally started mixing hands well last few years, and the 300/magnum/charger kept Chrysler doing well, but they need to get the rest of the lineup going as good too.

The fact they replaced the SRT-4 with the caliber srt-4? They don't have a small or economy car, and in 2007, thats one of the most emerging markets in the auto industry. If there was a new SRT-4 I may have considered it looking at cars, but why on earth would I even look at a caliber with the other pocket rockets available now?

I once got a Chrysler Lebaron from 94 for free. It was a convertible, all leather & all power 3L V6 car with 110 miles or so. The transmission was dead. But hey, it was free.

Here'* a cool idea, though:

I think it doesn't apply to SRT vehicles, the Viper is an SRT-10..

there is always a catch and fine print to stuff like this. I bet it is really hard to meet all the requirements for a replacement/fix down the road.

So, if I were to buy a Chrysler, I'd have to drive it to the dealership every 5 weeks, and then I could abuse it like a rental car. To me, this isn't so bad. I would love to cold-start the car, drive it hard without letting it warm up, constantly carry anvils, and drive like a mad man, but only up to the speed limit, every single time I drive. Seems like a fun warranty. Actually, I don't abuse cars, but I truly think this is great for all those spoiled kids some people have. The 5-week dealership checkups could teach discipline through constance.

Most importantly, in case anyone has read through the deal, can one modify the car'* engine for performance?

The private acquisition of Chrysler is still on track, but they are having trouble getting funding from investors. It will be interesting to see what happens to Chrysler in the hands of a private equity firm. We'll see what happens! Maybe it can kick those unions out the door once and for all, what a mess the American auto industry is because of it.

Well, Chrysler is screwed. There are people with my intentions and more money, and those Vipers better be ready to take a lashing.
