How old is the alternator? If the lights stay on, but dim and then go back to normal, it might possibly be the voltage regulator, which is usually internal and replaced with the alternator. Even if the alternator has been replaced, you could have gotten a bad one. I would have the alternator tested or try using a voltmeter to see what kind of output you’re getting from the alternator.

its got a voltage guage, and it says at 14 volts. I am thinking it needs a new alt. I am going to get my dad to take it to autozone(its his truck), and have them test the alt and battery, and see what they get. thanks for the replies!
