Default Pontiac Firebird help???

My friend recently purchased a 1996 firebird with the 3800 and he is having some weird issues with the tranny. I was wondering if anyone here knows of a good source of info for f-bodies. I found a couple of forums but technical help was hard to track down (tells me how good bonneville club really is ) SO if you have advice please let me know he will be very happy with any ideas passed his way.
thanks for any help.

His tranny seems to "feel like its in neutral" when going down hills. I know a automatic wont provide the backpressure of a manual but it should hold back a little bit. I dont think that it should feel like its not in gear at all, if you have any ideas to help me diagnose this it would be greatly appreciated. thnx

Huh, thats usely a cool thing to glide like that. How'* take off? Can you feel 1-4th? Also a simple question- have you checked the fluid? Have enf? What does it look/smell like?
