LOL, I laughed at todays headlines in the Toronto Star

Evgeni Malkin (superstar Russian forward), was quoted...

"Easily"

Refering to how his Russian team will beat Canada if they keep playing the way they are

I missed the game tonight, but way to go boys!...another World Junior championship..and 5-0, go Justin Pogge!...racked up another shutdown. Silly Russians, I hope Evgeni eats his words

Awesome tournament for the Canadian squad!!!!!!

But it did get quite annoying listening to the TSN commentators, they just kept harping that the Canadian team had no 'superstars' like the US or Russian teams.

I can't emphasise how nice it was to see a team play with 20 odd guys that put their heart and soul into the game and no prima donnas soaking up all the attention. Each game had different guys stepping up to the plate to put in great performances.

Meanwhile you had guys like Johnson from the US and Malkin from Russia who didn't nearly live up to their advance billing. Not that they played badly, but the focus was on them to outperform while many others were overlooked (like US defencemen).

Anyway, what a pleasure to watch a team play like a team!!!!!

Cheers,

You said it! This is always true, no matter the sport/activity. The supperstars can often carry a team, but not always. The constant focus on superstars neglects the aspects of teamwork and building a team with heart and depth.
It'* a rare pro team that can go the distance in playoffs with just a couple stars. The hard workin' grunts are necessary.

My kudos to the Canadian Jr. Hockey Team!!!

I think its cool that a country of 28 million supplies a professional sports league with nearly 50% of its players. (NHL)

Canadian winter sports have always excelled over the years....its what we do best!
