Default Need help with a Compression program

I have a 865Mb movie (A german movie) and I need to compress it to under 700MB to fit it on a CD-r. Can anyone point to to a good program that I don't have to pay for to use? Thanks.

if it is an avi, mpg, it is already "compressed". to do it any farther requires re-encoding it. re-encoding an already encoded file will just deteriorate the quality. better off splitting it in 2 and using 2 cd'* or just copy it to a dvd
