Limewire will and does destroy computer, I suggest you uninstall it and re-install winrar.
If you still want to download things try using IsoHunt and uTorrent.

Yes, I have heard Limewire has hidden spyware over and over again. And if you got it somewhere other than the homepage, x2. And it'* causes registry problems the same way Quicktime does, always wanting to be first, and only. Regardless of the options you choose. (Which BTW seem to re-choose themselves over time)
I personally use uTorrent to download and WinRar to exrtract. Love the two and never a problem.
Always play it safe and only download torrents with good reviews. Alot of hackers and gimmickware peddlers out their having a good time with unnecessary codecs and rogue programs.

They are two separate programs with two separate functions. Cant conflict each other. You need to read through the WInRar instructions. it isnt something we can just walk you through. You download with one, save file, and close it. Then open file and extract with WinRar.

John summed it up nicely. That being said, WinRAR on Windows, and UnRarX or The Unarchiver on Mac. Most Linux versions have something built-in.
Technobabble: RAR is a type of archive, like ZIP, gzip, LZMA, 7-zip, and the like. Think of it as a bag full of stuff, held closed by a zipper. You need to unrar/unzip/gunzip/unlzma it before you can get at what'* inside.
LimeWire lets you download and share things. Sort of like RapidShare, a BitTorrent client, email/forum attachments, and the like. Think of it as a large room full of people trading bags — the FAA'* worst nightmare.
Hope that clarifies. Not sure if it did.
