Alot of torrents involve flac/rar/xvid/ and more formats that make it easier to download.
Be forewarned there are a Lot of Company'* and idiots out there tying spyware, useless software, and even virus'es that will crash your computer permanently to torrents. They play on the fact that most computer owners have had to deal with uploading codecs from reputable media player companies. If you aren't experienced with codecs or know more than the average novice, your likely to get burnt. Never download something without the site showing a ratings and comment section. And make sure you are getting something tried by others and thought safe. Even this safeguard isn't 100% effective. Alot of torrents have a ton of "it'* OK" comments done by the very people responsible for the hacks. And some sites have only Fake comments.

YW!
I wanted to give that warning, because even though I have been on the internet since Al Gore invented it (sic), and fairly familiar with codec'* and re-formats. I myself fell victim to a really nasty one called Windows Police Pro. It isn't a virus, but a rouge program. It came right through 100 of thousands of computers with both Norton and McGafree. Including mine. It is hidden in a video torrent and activates when you use the supposed codec update within the torrent also. It digs right into your registry, and tags your virus software as viruses. It stubbornly keeps putting up "scanning for viruses" boxes and pop-ups requesting you to buy "Window'* Police Pro" Memory resources are slowly hog tied intil nothing else on your computer works. At this point, I gave up and reformatted my hard drive. I lost everything not backed up. Afterwards upon reading about the rouge program, I found that others had paid for the phony virus program and just got burnt. Paid out the ransom and got left without a fix. So I am now as cautious a torrent downloader as I can be. No torrent site is 100% safe, These torrents are everywhere.

Private trackers FTW! I love my private places. All the uploads are scanned for everything you can think of. What the staff does is this: You upload a torrent, they download it and test it. They don't just scan it before using the files, they actually use the files too. That way if it'* something that activates upon usage they'll see it. This keeps the members from getting raped.
