Body mass index
I just got measured for weight, BMI, and fat %.
6'3", 241 lb, 30.1 BMI and 26% body fat.
Now, 26% is only 6 points above the recommeded range according to Gold'* Gym, but the BMI says I'm .1 above obese.
I cannot say I think of myself as obese, especially since they said I only should lose 18 pounds to be ideal. WTF?

I hear ya. :( I know I'm overweight, but I didn't think I was obese either. I'm 6' 1" and 210. That'* considered obese basically. My ideal weight is 180 #'*. I'm not sure of my % of fat though. I thought I was doing pretty well until I saw pictures of me from Christmas. I can't believe how much I've bloated up. Time to run more!

I got ya both beat. 5'9" and 240lbs. I am considered to be severely overweight, which oddly, I am only fat in the face and stomach area. My arms and legs are skinny.
I plan to get down to 175-180lbs by the end of summer.

Oh, i dont even wanna talk about it lol. I'm 5'9 and weigh 180lbs. My doctor says I should way no more than 145lbs. He'* out of his freaking mind. I don't have itty bitty bones lol Ok, yes, I could stand to lose 20lbs, but if I get any lower than 160lbs I look anerexic. Screw that! I'll deal with my quote un quote 15lbs over weight lol. Granite right now I'm 20lbs more than I want to be, but oh well, I've had a kid, it'* baby fat (she'* 7 years old) haha

On a related note, how are your other #'* john? (blood pressure, cholesterol, resting heart rate.) If those are good, you're still healthy even though you have the extra weight. My doctor told me losing weight for me wasn't a big deal really because my blood pressure is only 104/60, LDL Cholesterol was around 40 something, and my resting heart rate is 62. Other than being around 20-25 #'* overweight, I'm still very healthy in other aspects.

They didn't measure heart rate or cholesterol.
I found some limitations of BMI. Athletic/muscular people will have inflated numbers, older people with muscle/bone loss will lower numbers. And I have theory that not everyone has the same bone density to begin with.

I'm shorter now since back surgery. Just slightly. Puts me about 5'9" at 150 pounds. A little advice to you guys that want to lose a pound or two, just add more stress to your life.
