Random thought of the day...
Why do a lot of 4 cylinder engines have intake ports on the back and exhaust ports on the front of the head? The intake air has to go around to the back of the engine, just to be pushed out the front of the engine, and routed back to the rear.
Why not do this?

I believe the Acura RSX (K20 Honda motor) has the setup like the one in your pic. No other fourbanger I know of does that :?
Other newer Honda motors may be the same, I dunno.

From a design standpoint, it only makes sense. Less material. Fewer restrictive bends. Ligher, better performing. Does anyone have a good explanation why they've stuck with the bass ackwards way?

I think it has alot to do with packaging in such a small engine bay. The actual setup is not that restrictive as it still allows optimal valve placement.
