Actually, I have heard nothing but good about them. The '07s have the 240hp 3.9, and can get up and go fairly quickly. MPGs are fairly good, and overall, they are very nice for the price.

My cousins 02 was quite reliable.. Never had a serious issue... But only kept it to 42,000 miles... I checked the Ac for them last summer as they complained that it wasn't cooling... I found the system to be way low... Charged it and it was again fine... Compressor was already starting to make noise... Tensioner was going bad in Chevy 60* V6 fashioned... But that one is easily repaired... I drove their van and was happy with it for what it was... Drove good and handled ok as it had the FE2 suspension...
Their new 06 Montanna SV6 3500, has all of the toys and an FE3 Sport suspension... From what they said, it hugged the road and held the curves nice for a van.. They were impressed with it

Thanks, guys. A friends daughter is looking to buy one (has to give up her Chevy Silverado extended cab, can't get 2 adults and 4 children in it) used so will likely be an 05 or 06. My daughter-in-law has the 98 Chevy Venture, and for what it is, it seems ok. I had to replace the head gaskets on it though! (A big tip of the hat to Bill Buttermore for advice on that.)
The reviews for the Uplander are rather sparse, and take the tone of Consumer'* Reports regarding domestic vehicles. One thing that concerned me was a listing of under dash electrical problems.

Yeah the Uplander is still rather new... Hasn't been around long enough...
I like the Uplander but I am more Partial to the Montanna SV6.... I am a Pontiac Guy... And if I had to have a Minivan it would be the Montanna...lol
No matter the GM division, I would recommend the lower gaskets get replaced somewhere along the line..

LIM gaskets are no longer a problem on the 3900. There is a new coolant bypass that runs externally on the belt drive side of the LIM. Coolant no longer passes through the LIM, I think this also goes for the 3500.

The coolant passages in the 3.9L V-6 are designed to flow coolant in a predetermined path. The coolant enters the accessory drive end of the engine block from the radiator, then flows to the transmission end of the engine. From there it flows up to the cylinder heads, and back to the accessory drive end of the engine. The thermostat is placed near the inlet from the radiator, promoting quickest possible warm-up, and the fill point is at the highest point of the cooling system to prevent air from being trapped in the system.
