1970 Plymouth RoadRunner
On Monday a gent called me at work and asked if we could re ratio and add a posi to his differential on his 1970 RoadRunner, I instantly got a lilttle excited and said, Yes, ofcourse, I actually have all the parts here to do that, will you be brining the whole car or just the diff? He Replies, the whole car. However, he says, there are a few conditions, the car CANNOT be outside overnight, it CANNOT be parked on the gravel, and it CANNOT be test drove upon compleation. I said, okay, no worries there, I can fit 15 Kenworths in my shop, we have a hoist in which your car will be placed upon and left on until the job is compleated.
I was picturing a REALLY mint car, he comes in, i sign him in, he leaves, I walk out back to see what we have to work with.. My heart probably stopped for a few seconds, i said to my service manager, I have one beautiful gorgeous amazing RoadRunner for you to drive onto the hoist, ever so gracefully, we got it up onto the hoist
License plate reads 6PK-440, thats a no brainer, four speed on the floor.
This car was painted all over, the under caraige was paninted the same part except for the diff, Dshaft and misc suspension compents that were gloss black. All new True dual exhaust, original OEM rims that god only KNOWS how much are worth.
Ive chatted with him over the past few days on the phone, I guess the car was appraised at 80,000-100,000, and was restored 12 years ago, it looks like it was done yesturday, STUNNING to say the least, I was SOOO excited to take the odometer reading down and the VIN for the work order as I got to sit in the driver seat, wow...just..freaking WOW, so nice, like new.
I get to stare at it all day long as its up on my hoist and my office is just 20 feet infront of it with a large window.
Heres what it looks like, minus vynl roof, worth its weight in gold.

So, what'* that got, a cable driving the speedo / odometer (if ya catch my drift )
C'mon man, at least tell him you can't warrant the work without a thorough test drive

Oh, Maaaaaan. As tempting as it would be to drive that beauty, I'd be afraid to get within spittin' distance of that thing. I hope your hoist has rubber pads! Or you used something like a lube rack!!

An old boss of mine (now retired) is a Mustang freak and has, among other things (like a one-owner Buick Grand National with (I think) about 8k on it!), a "100 point" restoration Boss 429. The thing lives in a zippered bag in a climate controlled garage.
For those unfamiliar with a 100 pt restoration, this is a process of returning a car to factory original. Not perfection, in a manner of speaking! It has to have the proper fish-eye in the paint, correct ID stickers on parts...the factory flaws have to be there. It is an attempt to make the car look like it just rolled off the assembly line - much more difficult than traditional "show quality". I wish I had pictures.

We are using shop towels on the diff stand at the moment, she has to stay scratch proof, belive it or not, the yoke is the hardest part to find..there were some odd change ups...hopefully this afternoon i can get it out the door...it sounds amazing to hear it turn over and fire up.
