Computer Tech problems
Okay..My 80 gig HD screwed up. SO I bought a new 80 Gig HD.
I hooked it all up properly in my computer, then went to run my Windows XP installation Disc.
It starts doing its thing, then pops up and says please insert a valid copy of Windows 95,98,NT,2000 or ME.
I Don't have one, just the XP disc...
SOOO
I tried the computers original recovery disc, it starts, pops up that I do not have a valid partition...okay...so I go LeftShift F12 and set a partition on that drive...
It still doesnt work..tells me the same thing..
what the hell???

The xp installation disk should have come up with options for partioning the drive
The restore cd should just do it. Depending on the computer maker.
You may have to prepartion the drive with the software provided from the drive manufacturer. Depending on your computer

that must be an XP UPGRADE disk instead of the full installation. As for the restore disks, you might need to format the drive after you partition it. I hate restore disks so I always pay a little more for the original disks.

Yup its a Upgrade disk.
And sense you dont have the factory Hard drive in with the hidden Partion for the restore.. well umm... the only thing you can do is Call the manufacture and as for a Reinstall disk "not a restore disk" you may have to pay some money, but that might be the onyl way to fix it with out getting a new 100% copy of XP

They don't even give you restore cd'* with the software on it anymore? Wow...
He'* got as valid copy of XP, he just needs a win95 disk which I have several.
Matt if you need one (win95) shoot me a pm. It'll be free. I've also heard of browsing back to the cd of what you're trying to install working. In this case back to the XP Upgrade cd. Not sure if it will work with Xp though, worth a try.

Don't you know anyone that has any Windows CD for any of those versions? You just need it long enough to slap it in the drive so it can say...ok, you had the other versions...and then you're on with the installation...never to look for that CD again.
