I would encourage her to look at a Grand Am if she wants a smaller Pontiac. GM never addressed the problems the the J-body had with losing right-front suspensions. And before anyone asks what I'm talking about, I have, with my own eyes, seen at least fifteen J-bodies, ranging from late 80'* to late 90'*, that have, in the middle of traffic, undergone catastrophic suspension failure in the right-front. In other words, the bloody wheel, control-arm, and tie-rod fall off!!I've never heard of GM addressing it, but if I've seen that many cars experience the same problem, I'd say it was a major worry.

It'* not even a topic of discussion on j-body.org.
That huge of a safety concern would be a recall, too.
