The story goes......

My buddy John went to the grocery store with his wife of 13 years. His wife sits her purse in the cart, as most women do, John is pushing the cart. Being bored he is on the cell phone with his buddy chatting about buddy type things. They wander their way through the store. At this point Johns wife says "I'm going over to the other aisle for something and will be right back", he continues on and sees something he wants to look at.

Walking around the corner from the grocery cart, he is looking at the item of interest when his wife spots him and rushes back up the aisle asking "Where is the cart? Where is the cart?", John gestures around the corner and she hurries over to find her purse still there and untouched.

Wife is mad at John for walking away from the cart and being out of sight of it with the purse in it. John didn't do this intentionally and feels he is not wrong for walking away from the cart. "I don't have a purse, it is my wifes purse and if she wants me to watch it, she should specifically ask for me to watch the purse."

I'd like to see on a poll if John is right or wrong about him not being responsible to watch the purse without specifically being told.

That drives me nuts about most women. My mother in law is like that. She carries around what can be generously called an "assault weapon" sized purse, leaves it with her husband, and wanders off. When he gets bored and goes to look at something she gets pissed.

Fortunately my wife has to have her purse pried off her body she hates letting it out of her sight so much.

Since they are his CC to most likely, he should care. but, it wasn't taken so who cares,

It'* been a hot lunch topic more that once. Therefore with the diverse crowd we have here...I wanted to get an overall opinion from different people.

To also see if I was on track or odd in my decision of him being right or wrong.

She left him with the cart? If so, it was his responsibility. It'* not just HER purse. It'* THEIR purse if you think about the potential losses.

Bill has a point here. Married couples usually have joint credit cards and bank accounts...

And that was something I factored in. they do have joint accounts.

i say "Wrong" on this as well. Aside from the fact of the {possible} joint loss factor....his wife left her purse with him in the cart as an unconsciousness gesture of trust. Being that he is her husband, i believe that she felt she was leaving her belongings in the best possible hands. However, when she returned and found out that she was wrong about trusting him with the purse, that trust was damaged and most likely was a factor in her being upset.

Granted, it is her purse and she should keep track of it most of the time. However, looking at it from a different point of view...if the husband allows her to take his car somewhere and she returns home without it stating that its "his car, and she should watch it" then i'd imagine he'd be pretty upset.

going with bill here. While it would have been nice for her to ask that, it should be assumed if he was the only one with the cart. If they were both there and he walked away first and then she did, and then she yelled at him, it would be different.
