free-air sub installation in CTS
The BLOSE subwoofer that came with my CTS blew out prematurely so what better way to replace it than with a free-air Kicker 10-inch sub. This is my first free-air subwoofer setup and all in all, I like it. It isn't as loud as a sealed, box, setup, but it is loud enough. Basically in a free-air (IB) setup, the entire trunk acts as the subwoofer box. So in essence, it'* like having the subwoofer in a 15 CU FT box. It is easily 3x as loud as the stock BOSE subwoofer and the sound quality is also a lot better. The bose sub was too 'boomy' sounding and this one can hit the lows very well, and it can also give the tight punchy bass that I love. Here'* some pictures. I have 300 watts RMS running to just this 10-inch sub which is incredible considering its size. It could easily take more too it seems. I had friends listen to it and nobody could believe that it was a little 10" FREE AIR subwoofer making that kind of sound. It'* amazing. The best part of it all.... I didn't lose any trunk space.

the rear deck carpet/cover covers up the subwoofer. It'* of course removed for the purpose of installation and pictures. If it were on you'd only see the subwoofer grill and nothing else.

Looks exactly like the sub Pat found at NEBF in a Seville, but it sounded REALLY good hooked up to his car... When you say the sub grille, do you mean an aftermarket grille or the one that came with the car???
On another note, I totally agree that Bose blose. My parents just got a new Acadia with a Bose system and it sounds HORRIBLE! The bass is VERY distorted, but the highs were excellent. I think that'* what Bose sells people on, is their highs. No lows, what-so-ever.
