Do any of you guys have a fun weekend car? I've been looking around for something fast, small, and fun to drive (like a Subaru WRX). I've not driven anything like that, so I'm not familiar with the smaller quick cars.

I like rally races (and the occasional rally video game) so that'* my inspiration for this car hunt. ....something that'* quick, agile, stable, and 'drift-able.'

What have you guys driven? Any recommendations?

My personal favorite is the 98-02 Pontiac Trans Am WS6s. My wife and I are searching for one and will own one before too long. Can't beat the stock 305 HP that they put out, mated to a 6 speed manual transmission. Very fast, and very agile. That'* my vote, but they're on the pricey side.

Geo Metro baaaybbeee haha but if I had to give that up uhmm....I wouldn't mind an rx7 reguardless of their problems or maybe a Porsche 944, but you'll have to look into insurance and maintenance issues on that one...I like the look and somewhat rarity of the Subaru SVX. I think they had like 200hp in that somewhat small thing. Good luck finding one though

1g dsm or 2nd gen with a 1st gen head swap... less than $1,500 invested will get you 12.5s

My friend'* roommate has one. I should take a pic sometimes. It looks like a sweet weekend car. Oh yea, and his other roommate has a WRX.

Sounding good, guys. Thanks! That SVX looks pretty sweet. I looked up a few on eBay, but with 100,000 to 140,000 miles on their odometers, I'm not so sure.... Though when they're that used, they're not very expensive!

I really like the looks of the latest WRX. Only problems are: 1) my price range means getting one no newer than 2002 (which is the previous body style) and 2) insurance will cost a fortune. I'm not 25 yet and I've got 1 speeding ticket that doesn't get wiped until October of 2005, so my rates would be pretty high.

Lancer Evo seems to be the WRX'* rival, so I imagine the insurance and price-range issues would be the same for this as for the WRX.

DSM'* might be a little old for what I'm looking for. Latest one was 99, right? Besides, the Front Wheel Drive may make it tough to drift.
