Ugggghhhhh cell phone rant!!! (need some advice)
On May 10th, I had an interview with Sears for the store by my house. I nailed the interview and by the end I could tell the interviewer (Karen) was very pleased. She told me if I was selected for a second interview I would hear something by 18th. Of course I was glued to the house constantly checking the home and cell phone to see if I received a call.
After, the 18th passed with no word heard back, I started to think maybe someone with more experience got called back. I called the store on the 21th to see what was going on with the position. I let the HR phone ring 8 times and no one picked up. So I decided to just take it as a loss and continue my job search.
So today I check my cell phone just to see if there are any voice mails and of course there are two new messages one was from Karen that was left ON THE 17TH! . She was calling to set up a second interview for the 21th with a department manager. What pisses me off about my damn cellphone is the fact that whenever someone leaves a voice mail a message, it is suppose to display a message saying "You have a voice mail message". I constantly checked both my cell and house phones for missed calls that week faithfully and nothing. So now tomorrow I will have to eat my own **** and call Karen back tomorrow and hope she does not tell me it'* too late.
Here'* where I need a little advice, when calling her back should I just tell her what I just ranted to you guys (of course in a more professional manner) or should I just casually return her call (extremely late) or do you guys suggest I do something else? :?: :?:

Lie your arse off! Never admit a blonde moment to an interviewer!
Tell her your grandmother went ito the ICU; prognosis wasn't good and you left town immediately but forgot your cellphone at home (you were in a huge rush) and noone knew about the bug your cellphone has so nobody knew that there was a voicemail for you. If your grandmother has already passed away tell Karen that she passed away (she WILL ask how she'* doing) and if shes still around tell Karen she'* doing much better and is being taken care of by family now. You've a very close & responsible family you know
or something like that.
But don't be surprised if the position is filled.

Tell the truth. Problems like that are common with cell phones. My Dad'* old one pretty consistently screwed up voicemail notifications.
If it'* gone, it'* gone, but she should understand about the cell phone thing.

meet halfway between the two above. tell her your cellphone malfunctioned and the company just retrieved the info from your old phone so you just got the message. the ill family member is a lie that could come back to haunt you if you got the job and she met your family. the cell phone lie will at least be believable and hopefully forgotten down the road.
