ok so im doing a couple a fiberglass enclosures. Iv watched and read many forums on doing this and i thought i could do it with no problems after seeing some peoples projects. well my problem is that the mat is sticking to EVERYTHING but where its suppose to. i thought it was too cold and the glue was too think. well the cold not the problem got some heaters going and the earea i work in it good enough. as for as the glue i added some thinnner and im still having problems. i watch some of these guys do it on you tube and there just brushing this stuff on with NO problems and its not sticking to to them or the brush and they even use a roller and it doesnt stick. maybe the resin is still too thick???????? maybe its the mat i got.

i got the mat from here and got the 1-1/2 oz. maybe this was a bad idea?

im going through so much resin its dumb. and i only have two layers on each enclosure so far. my biggest problem is that this damn mat the fibers just pull out and pull off. and stick to me and the brush and then pull the mat off. and im getting air bublbes every where. when i popped the molds out im going to have to sand the crap out of it just to add more layers.

i tried using wd-40 on the gloves that doesnt work.

i never bothered to get a roller becase its just oging to stick to everything. so until i figure this problem out im going end up killing some one. not really but man its been making me so mad.

im using bondo brand resin
and im not using too much hardener.


i tried to seperate the mat to make it thinner like i saw some one else do but it doesnt work. theres like a center main piece and then this like just random pieces wooven into it.

does any one haev any ideas of what the hell my problem is.

this should not be this difficult.

i did use small pieces, and i tried larger pieces. no matter what i do i get this problem

and its seriously taking me like 2 hours just to do one damn layer on each one. later today when i get home maybe ill snap some pictures.

It'* just a messy job and takes some getting used to, do not use oil in any fashion, it will mess things up. I've had best results by spreading some bondo on first, then pressing the mat into it, driving the bondo up through it. Then trowel the bondo that comes thru with a wetted soft plastic scraper or rubber squeegee. Let that set, then continue. when you build it up, use a dragon skin file while the bondo has the consistentsy of bar soap. It makes things alot easier.

a wetted scrapper? with water? the resin wont get on it and make everything stick like its been to me and the brush

Dragon skin is a name used by body shps . I prolly should have said "body filler file'. It looks and acts like a cheesegrater, it comes in a variety of shapes, heres a photo of one. It has to be used when the bondo is set, but not hard. Body guys make it all look so easy. It isnt.

ok i got it now. but thats for "Bondo Filler" Im just using "Bondo Brand" resin with fiberglass chop matt.

Dude, first off junk the bondo brand resin it'* pure crap. Stop by a decent automotive paint supplier & get the Evercoat brand. Fiber glass is very easy to do & can be Very Very messy . Even for the pro'* who make it look simple ( And trust me I've worked with fiber glass for over ten years) your still gonna have some mess.
To me it sounds like you got some really shitty matt & that is one of your other problems. The matt is not such a big deal as far as brand, generally matt is matt but the weight can sometimes cause problems if your not used to using fiberglass.
