Radar detectors
Hey everyone so i've been thinking about gettin a fuzz buster for a while. In Michigan they are legal to have as long as they do not have any radar jamming capabilities. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with any brands or certain models that they could share

Depending on the level of law enforcement you are up against, the most effective thing to do is get a jammer/scrambler and not a detector. Most places are well into the newest radars and laser to get your speed. They are typically an officer pointing a gun at your car with cross hairs. This enables then to pinpoint your vehicle then squeeze the trigger which gives an instant pulse. Your detector goes off to let you know it'* time to pull over.
Instant on radar and laser is a real tough one to beat. It'* not transmitted until the trigger is squeezed, which is too late.

Agreed with Boosty, especially with Laser. POP radar can be detected, so hopefully you are not the one he is pointing at at the first trigger pull. Laser, you are lucky if the radar detector is able to catch the scatter off the car directly in front of you. I have only been tagged by laser one time, in traffic, and I got no warnings, and I saw the officer behind a bush within 3 seconds. Thankfully I was passing a truck, doing 72 in a 70.

I have the Passport 8500 X50 in the Bonnie and my truck. I've been scattered with laser and if you jump on the brakes you can avoid getting locked at higher speeds. I've been very satisfied with the detectors and have avoided 'paying the man' on several occasions.
Laser Jammers and Radar Jammers are illegal in the states of Nebraska, Minnesota, Utah, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, Colorado, Illinois and Washington DC.

The 9500xi has GPS and can store locations of false alarms, it also has traffic cams and speed traps programmed in it from the get go.

After having the Escort 9500xi I would not even consider another radar detector. I had the 8500 and it is the same technology minus the GPS technology. What the GPS technology does for you is automatically block out false signals after the third pass, as well as allowing you to manually block out signals. My trip home used to consist of constant radar noise to the point I would just tune it out because of all the road construction. Now the only time I hear my detector is if there is a cop. Approx. 3 mile range, so even if they are using POP mode, you can still pick it up when they pop someone else. If you are the only person on the road, chances are your not getting any warning but it will tell you what speed they actually caught you at which is very helpful in ticket negotiation. It also has monthly updates for most speed traps and red light cameras in the US.
The only other detector I would go with is the SRX system with jammers. There is a little loophole in the jammer laws, they specify that you cannot have a jamming system with 4 or more jammers, the SRX system puts 2 in front and 1 in back, so it is technically legal. The front jammers are mounted hidden behind the grill, and the back one is license plate mount and looks similar to the ipass frames or backup cameras. The other loophole the SRX takes advantage of is the inaccuracy of laser guns. The average person using a laser gun might actually hit the target 3 our of 10 times, the other 7 times they would get an error code. Now obviously officers are trained with the guns and have a higher accuracy, but they still are only going to hit every 7/10 times (although newer guns may be more accurate). What this means is just because the officer gets an error does not mean you are jamming, so what they will do is reset the gun and try again. The SRX will warn you (VERY AUDIBLY!) that you got hit with laser, you then jump on your brakes, and press a button to deactivate the jammers. Then the cop shoots you again and you are hopefully going the speed limit this time and he gets a reading because the jammers are off. Also, even if you do get pulled over, you know what speed you were hit at, or that they didn't get a reading. You also do not have a radar detector or jammers *** far as the officer knows because the actual detector is also hidden in the dash and not visible, all that you see is a thumb sized control panel that can be put anywhere.
Some more interesting information. If memory serves, Escort not only makes a fair amount of the radars that are used, but they own 85% of all radar patents. They also consistently win radar competitions up against the best of the best.
