Anyone else have to pay tax on their car's value each year?

They've gone to inspections every two years, with emissions required in some counties, which includes mine unfortunately.

we get inspections every single year..
we get inspected NEVER. also no emmisions inspections.

No inspections or emmissions here either. Too small a town. The big city 4 hours away does though.
We pay 12% tax plus Luxury tax on top of that when buying new. 7% Provincial sales tax plus 5% (just lowered from 6% Jan.1) Government sales tax.

Luxury tax is:
If $55,000 then additional 1%
$56,000 is +2%
$57,000 or more is +3%

Yearly registration is about $75 plus insurance of about $1500 per vehicle. 5 years safe driving with no claims takes about 40% off your premiums.
