Default Removing bathroom caulk?

Well, we are remodeling our bathroom, and we have old hard caulk that is about 12 years old that we CANNOT get scraped off the edge of the bathtub. Does anyone know what we can use to soften it to help remove it? It'* making my dad pretty pissed off because he has been scraping at it for 20 minutes with no luck.

Yes, the bathtub is a ceramic coated cast iron tub original to the house (built like 1959). We cannot remove it as it requires ripping part of the wall out. So we cannot ruin the tub.

There isnt much you can do except give it hell. Like stated above a good scraper is very usefull but it'* still time consuming. if you go to a hardware store I would recomend a "five in one" it is a tool made for painters but is all around usefull.
