I still shake my head at all of this. The car operates fine at 4-5 PSI at idle. At 4 PSI you get warned. I'd like to hear the final diagnosis.

What sucks is his parents won't let me touch it. I wanted to pull the oil pan and look, but they said absolutely not. I don't find this to be uncommon, as a few people on the Fiero forum I was joined to got bad N** from the junkyard that said that they were good. Oddly, it had the correct amount of oil, no leaks, no past history of abuse (his father owned it since new and totally babied it), so I don't know what went wrong.

If he wants to get rid of the car let me know... I will buy it just to examine it... and if it is in as good of shape as you say drop a brand new N* in there.

I will let him know, but I'll tell you now, it'* a first come first serve thing, and I have already called him and given him 4 phone numbers already of interested buyers. There is also a possibility of his parents replacing the engine for him, as they are upper class and have craploads of money.

Seeing the 3800 owners comment on northstars reminds me A LOT of the 60* guys talking about the 3800... Not a good thing either.
Is it perfect? No, but a majority of 3800'* left GM'* hands with fatal flaws in them as well (L36/LIM).

Yes. But thats just the L36. The LG3, LN3, L27, L26, L67, and L32 are excellent engines. One engine gave them all a bad name.
As for the N*, I know of a friend with an 04 Deville and drove it 500 miles a day, 5 days a week for the year that i knew him with it before he moved. with normal dealer performed maintenance, it performed flawlessly.
he started with 50k and ended with about 175k after just one year of ownership and he said it was one of the best engines he'* ever owned.

Plus the L36 problem is fixable. I'm not even sure what causes this problem...plus it'* a hit or miss sort of thing...can't really say yes it will happen, or no. :? Doesn't seem to be any way to prevent it either, aside from nice treatment...but in my grandparent'* case, 20,000 miles of nice treatment killed it anyway. :(
I don't think this makes the Northstar crap, it'* just one of those weird phantom problems. I'm just glad I don't have to worry about it.
