There was pig skin leather available through '87 I believe. Damndest thing I've ever seen. In '88 (very odd year for the STEs), there were a few built with leather seats/door panels. My dealer brochure has a shot of one in this leather, and the leather didn't have the breather holes in them. Just smooth all the way through. In '89, the STE became an optionless car, save for upgrading to a CD player. Everything else was standard for the $24K pricetag. They took away sunroof/moonroof, and leather as an option because they didn't want the price to exceed the Bonny'*. For shame, GM.....for shame... :(

Hey, whats going on!? It is kinda wierd the number of w-body people that have been joining here lately... That was a pretty good write-up on the STE...I'm impressed. There is some stuff in there that I definately have never heard before. From the sounds of it they were definately available with a lot of options! I am surprised they were as cheap as they were (although $24k is still very expensive for that time), with all the gadgets I would think they would've been up there in the TGP pricerange.

Hey! Yeah, I was thinking the same thing with the number of SNs I recognized off the W forum. As for the write up.....I'm just getting started. I'll go into far greater deatail with photos when I get some better ones taken this spring. Yeah, $24K definitely wasn't cheap. The TGP was only priced at $25K-$27K because it was a one off joint project, so the costs were a bit harder to keep down with the production figures being so low. That'* why the radiators are still like $2K. You could get a loaded, n/a GP for a lot less then an AWD STE cost in '89. And as I said, if they hadn't taken away the leather and moonroof features, it would have been over the Bonny'* prices, and right there with the TGP and TTA. By comparison, I still have the original window sticker for my first '86 STE, which had the dual power seats. Cost? A little over $16K. To go from $16K to $24K in 3 years for the same make and model....that'* nutty. By the way, the AWD feature was a $3K option for the SEs in '90. Ok, there I go getting carried away again.....

sqela: I'll get some shots soon, but just to hold everone over....

This should look familiar to SSE owners

The identicle center console, minus the "LOCK" rocker switch

More familiarities

More to come in the near future....
