okay for the select few of you who saw the issues i was having earlier thats all taken care of, turns out it was the stupid firewall on my machine not letting things go smoothly, i guess its only doing its job though...

i can now see both computers from both computers, i can share printers, and im browsing on a shared connection as i type. i do still have one little problem...

from my computer named Zach, i can do anything i want, i can log onto my moms computer and access files, printers, and do whatever.

from my moms computer i can see mine but i cant access it, when i do it says "logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer"

any thoughts now?

are you both on XP Pro? Is your mom logging in as an administrator?

yes theyre both on XP Pro, i did a search for the error message i was receiving and found what i believe to be the problem, but i cant get it to save my changes properly...

yes my mom is an administrator on her computer.

it seems the problem is mainly under NT, i never found one occurence of it for ppl using Windows, this is blowing my freaking mind.

When you entered a password to access the network shares.. did you enter the account info for the local machine, the network machine [the admin of that machine, that was logged in at the time], or the network machine [the admin or reg. user that was NOT logged in at the time]?

well i know what youre trying to say but both computers do not have passwords on them, i never had to enter any passwords to access shared resources, i wanted it that way.

the name you put in to access the shares must exist on the computer you're trying to connect to.
Say you're on a computer named Zach and you want to access a share on a computer named Mom.
You want to enter the user name that exists on MOM, not your local username.

i dont have to enter anything to access anything. i go to my network places and under workgroup i see two computers "Mom" and "Zach" then i can click on those computers and see all resources available, no passwords, no nothing....

That sounds like your problem right there. I have to enter a password for systems that don't have login passwords. I also have to enter passwords for systems that have passwords [duh].

ok, try this:
In the Run command Type
MMC
click File>ADD/REMOVE SNAPINS
Click ADD
double Click "Local Computer Policy" (make sure you select your local computer on the next window.)
Then click ok.
Click Close
Click OK
click + next to "Local Computer Policy" to expand tree
+Computer Configuration
+Windows Settings
+Security Settings
+Local Policies
Click User Rights Assignments then look in right window pane

Double Click "access this computer from the network" and add "everyone" as the acceptable users.

double Click "Local Computer Policy" (make sure you select your local computer on the next window.)


the option to click "local computer policy" does not exist, its just not there. or if it is i cant see it, im guessing thats the exact terminology?

this isnt a big deal, but its really tickin me off
