Default Stupid Computer Part 2

Well I've been MIA for a while now...I just found out how much it will be to fix my computer, and frankly I would rather get a new one. $300 to fix a 5 year old iMac doesn't seem reasonable, even though I had a ton of programs and memory...

It'* very possible I would be able to finance a G5. I'd like the Dual 2.0 GH one but they're so damn expensive. I figure I can get the 1.6 GH with the 80G HD and upgrade it. But my friend suggested I get a PC and build one myself. Only I know nothing about that. He'd help of course but I don't know if I should spend $1000 on a PC now, or just spend $300 to fix my current one and save up for a G5 later.

This is such a pain. I guess I'll be MIA for another long while until I can figure out what to do.

Pete, Check out the Dell website then go to the Dell Factory outlet page. You can find good deals there on refurbished units. I got my Dim 8200 2.4 ghz there a little over two years ago and have never had a problem with it or my Dim 4550 either.

Well the $300 to fix it was a rip-off. I know a power supply replacement is not that much. I'm checking on this with a friend who knows someone who fixes computers and I'm going to see if I can order the part this week and fix it myself.

Apple parts are usually proprietary. Unlike PC parts which everyone and their sister makes these parts usually come from Apple and therefore a premium price.
