Default another Idaho cop

My son got pulled over yesterday, as well, (not in my car) luckily got away with just a no seat belt ticket. The reason the cop (STATE TROOPER) pulled him over was his muffler...
"ANY, ANY exhaust modification at all other than stock, is illegal in Idaho" as flowmaster drives byyyyyyyyyy....
oh course, my son asks..."Is that illegal?"
cop says..."Yep, yours just sticks out the back of your car, so I can see it...."
That is the only reason he pulled him over was to tell him it was illegal..no ticket for it...but nonetheless its illegal...
OH btw...the ONE good thing about it.....he is gonna were his seat belt now....

This begs the question as to what about normal aftermarket (ie. Midas, Mr. Muffler, etc.) muffler replacements. While they may be similar, they are not stock or OEM, therefore also illegal.

Of course, the sound or visual cues wouldn't be there...

I have a friend who is a retired PA Trooper and he always gets on me about my car, with the illegal tint and muffler, and the little cue balls hanging from the rear view mirror.

Sounds a bit strange to me. Federal law limits what modifications can be made to the exhaust system, but doesn't limit you to OEM parts only. Is your state one where the seatbelt is a secondary violation...where they can only right a ticket for seatbelt if they have pulled you over for a different violation? If so, that could be the reason for that "excuse".

I dont get some laws. A harley davidson that you can hear from a block and a half away is legal but a flowmaster isnt? Darn lawmakers!!! Nothing like robbing the working class......legally!!!

seriously,

i am going to build my own valved setup. i know they sell dump pipes and valves for ridiculous amounts of moola...but if i can squeeze it all under there, i would like to eventually get a twin-exhaust setup that allows me to switch between super quiet exhaust and maybe a set of 40 series flowmasters for the loud side. cop goes by...flip the switch...want a quick drag...flip it back. people have done it. it'* not easy though.

In Oklahoma it'* not against the law to have modified exhaust but, it is against a city ordinance (sp) to alter your exhaust in any way. I think they are just trying to cut down on the street racing and the only way they can do it on a daily basis is by making vehicle modifications illegal. Just my .02 cents on that deal.

I was wanting to do something like this, only have it so i could switch between straight pipes and a flowmaster 80 series. This would only be after i do alot of mods just so i could have a street legal car, but loose the muffler at the track with the flick of a switch.

PA is awfull 'bout that ****. They stand in road with traffic and pull people over in mass for seat belts, anything hanging in cabin or stickers on windows is a violation(though the police and fire associations here try to sell ya those window decals for contributions all the time by phone) any exhaust mods is illegal(now a emmisions test state)(and nitrous is illegal), your tires cant project beyond the body of vehicle, and tint must allow 70% in ( so why bother ). I risk at least 5 tickets every time I pull onto the street
