I wonder if there was a waiver they had to sign before hand??

Could the station be held liable for negiigence?

Radio stations always have people sign waivers before participating in stuff like that, still kind of sad though.

Ive heard of drug over doses, alcohol poisoning, but that really sucks when you DIE from drinking WATER! Man oh man, next someone is going to die in a radio contest from breathing!!!!!!

Goes to show how ridiculous those contests are and how far people will go to do something stupid for a dumb prize...........That girl could have gone to Walmart, bought a case of water and had money left to BUY a freakin Wii!

Geez!!!!!!

This was such a rediculous story! The station I listen to was talking about it yesterday, and how they did the same thing several years ago but limited the water intake because of the possiblility of water intoxication. Then they played a clip of that show talking about the contest beforehand, and people even called in saying you can die from drinking too much water but they just laughed and said they were signing waivers. I hope these people pay dearly.

Ive never heard of it before. Wierd!!

A local radio station here in Boston has a guy called Crazy Culo. Just the other day he had to put his head in a toilet at the radio station 4 times. 1 time for each question he got wrong in a trivia.

The catch? The radio personality wee'ed in the toilet before Culo was to dunk his head.

Ewwww.

I listen to the Freebeer and Hotwings show. www.freebeerandhotwings.com
Check out the section What Can Joe Do? He is their producer and spins a wheel each week with some crazy stuff on it. He can put money ($150 total) on any of the stunts. He usually puts it all on one thing and has gotten it a few times. For the last one he had to run in front of about 75 people with paintball guns (outside) only wearing a shirt and a Speedo.

Waivers don't apply if the station can be found guilty of negligence. You can't protect yourself from everything. Like someone couldn't sign away their personal rights and be sold into slavery because slavery is illegal, or become a prostitute and so on.
So, since negligence is illegal, if it can be proved, the waiver is meaningless. For example, they could be found guilty of criminal negligence if they failed ot research the possibilty of water intoxication, or failed to disclose that informatin to the contestants.
Just like if you leave your car at a garage for repair and they say they are not responsible fo rtheft or damage, and the car gets stolen because they left the keys in the car overnight, they are liable.
