I may have a shot at getting an 86 supra, is there any reason i shouldn't? I think i can get it fairly cheap as it'* not in the best condition, but it runs and it'* a 5 speed

i think that is a 86.5

the guy said the spoiler got ripped off but the glass is fine, but the whole hatch would have
to be replaced.

it will be a project car, probably swap the motor and do a 4 link. I'd like to get a twin turbo for it if i get it.

http://www.suprasport.com/

and the rear is good no need to 4 link it just better springs and swaybar and they will hold masive power asfar as twin turbo all the big dogs go single bigest thing is the headgasket on the 7M as a weak point if it is a na car look for the 156 trans the stock 58 wilnot hold more than 300 HP and if the tems is working and the shocks are not blown out then keep them they work good for a wile and can be moded for full stiff with a flip of a switch

Yes, the head gasket is an issue with the 3.0L 24V 7M-GE non-turbo and 7M-GTE turbo. 1986.5 came NA only. Think of it as the L36 UIM equivalent in the 86.5-92 Supra world. The problem is that from the factory, the head bolts were torqued too low at 55lb-ft. The real fix is to pull the head and have it machined (not just on a belt sander, you want as best finish and straightness as you can) - and the same goes for the block, if required: it'll definately be a must if you elect to go with a metal head gasket. New head bolts should be torqued at about 70lb-ft. Fix it properly once and it shouldn't bug you again for a long long time to come.

I'm not sure if I'd say TEMS is all that great, it'* the Toyota equivalent of CCR throughout the 80'* (they had it first!). Aftermarket stiffer springs and shocks will do you better.

The stock manual transmission in the NA models is the W58, it should hold 300-350rwhp without complaint, with a good clutch and all else. The turbo models get the R154; this one will hold 400rwhp and quite far beyond.

The MKIII 1986.5-1992 Supra was a pretty heavy car, weighing in anywhere from 3500-3700+lbs, about as heavy as our Bonnevilles. If you're looking for an autocross machine, you might be better off with the 1982-1986 MKII models (pictured above); they're my personal favourite.

they do the job for a wile as long as they are in good working order and that is something that can be left for a wile on the mod list but heck he might not even have the tems setup anyhow lol i just figure thear is more areas to spend the cash flow of a new project than just them for now like geting the the head in order and what not i my self used ARP bolts at 80# on a genuine Toyota HG and it worked great

and thanks for the clarification on the trans #* i was guessing at the moment lol but a MK II with a 7M-GTE is a beautiful thing on the track
