Default absolutely NO faith in the law(turn for the better!!)

Monday night I was hanging out with a friend of mine from work. Usually there'* more people there with us, but Monday, it was just her and I. She had been dating a guy for three years, but in the last three months they had broke up and were no longer dating each other. Long story short, she had feelings for me, and he knew about that, bu tnothing was going on between us. We were stricly friends. I didn't want her to jump into another relationship so soon, so we agreed we would stick to just being friends. Long story short, the ex boyfriend showed up at her house Monday night at 12:30 in the morning. I was sitting on the couch, she was completely across the living room sitting in a chair alteast 12 feet away. We weren't anywhere near eachother. He kicked her door in, and came running into the house yelling stuff at us both. Anyways, he runs to the couch where I was sitting and hits me in the face and tackles me down onto the couch and continues to hit me atleast 10-15 times. In self defense I got my left hand on his neck and eventually he fell to the floor. I was able to get away after that.
Fast forward to the day after, and he didn't have a single mark on him, whereas I had two black eyes, my forehead was extremely swollen and blood-shot, my nose was cut badly, I had four bruises under my hair, on my scallp, that were all atleast 4x4 inches, and were swollen/bleeding, a large bruise on my right bicep, two on my left forearm, and two on my left leg.

I filed a police report the day after and the sherrif who came out to talk to me said that he was going to press charges for assault and battery, and for death threats. Just two weeks prior I had received two voicemails from the guy saying that he was going to come after me and kill me if he ever "caught me with his girlfriend" (which they haven't been dating for over three months.) When had had come over Monday night, the officer said it could technically be considered attempted murder because he had brought two friends with him to help him fight. The two friends did not come into the house, but he had threatened that they were waiting outside for me with weapons when I left the house.

Fast forward to tonight, the charges were pressed against him, he was arrested and a judge was selected for the case. The guy who assaulted me has a dad as a lawer. The judge that was selected just so happens to be friends with his dad. The judge "reviewed the case" and dropped all charges. You have no idea how pissed off I was earlier tonight after I heard all charges were being dropped. It'* like saying it'* o.k. to assault someone for no reason, and have absolutely nothing happen to you. It'* complete and utter bulls***. I don't even know what to do from here. He'* not only threatening to attack me again, but he'* threatening my family too and there'* really nothing that I can do about it.

First of all, I'm hoping you're okay and I'm glad you're still alive.

Is there any possible way that you could get a lawyer and prove that the Judge did not do his job? I would consider it attempted murder myself.

I'm glad you are alright and nothing worse happend. If I were you I would get a lawyer and get the case re opened with a different judge. That is pure crap. Unfortinately it happens all the time in the US court system

If you can prove that the judge is friends with the guys lawyer dad, then theres conflict of interest there. You should be able at that point to get a new judge.

Good luck with the outcome!!

QFT, the judge just put himself in the ring of "baddies" involved. Try an appeal court, or some other way of doing it. If that'* not enough, call local TV stations, etc.

You can definitely fight that. The judge had no business dropping this even if he wasn't a freind of the father. That is grounds for an appeal. Make sure you have something in writing that says why he dismissed it. You will need this for an appeal.
Also, you can still pursue this in civil court against the guy who attacked you. Just because no charges were filed in criminal court has nothing to do with civil court. OJ Simpson and Michaels Jackson paid millions although they were found not guilty.
Of course, you can also go after the judge. But, of course, that may not go anywhere as he is probably friends with the other judges. DO NOT let this go away, but be prepared for a major hassle.
Also, be careful if you try to bring this to the media, you don't want to get sued for slander, libel, etc.... Although you can get away with a lot more since he is a public official. i researched this in my legal research class. Plus, since he is an elected official, I am sure he will want this out of the media'* attention. Just be careful when you ruffle the feathers.

This needs to stay in the criminal courts system, not civil courts. If the guy'* dad is a lawyer, they would probably be glad to throw a few hundred dollars at this rather than face any real punishment.

At the very least, you want to get a restraining order. You've already got evidence of physical and verbal assault (yes, verbal assault. If anything was said that makes you feel threatened, it can be verbal assault) so a restraining order should be easy to get.

I might even suggest you bring up the idea to the female friend. Sounds like she may be being stalked

Look into an appeal or new judge. But definitely, from here on out, every threqt should be recorded and reported. Enough reports and there would hopefully be no way any judge could dismiss it as a "one time thing"
