It just dawned on me why the x-fer case is broke ...........
It'* White LOL
I talked to the Auto Shop Manager tonight and he is asking me why i want to find a junkyard x-fer case for it. He said "Rebiuld it, you'd manage just fine" and it would be cheaper too
The pics are not very good, as it was dark out but heres a few:

How much are they asking?
I have a 97 C1500 pickup (same frame, drivetrain, etc.) and I've had numerous problems with mine. It'* finally stabalized, but the biggest issue I had was with the rear axle. It lost the carrier bearing and seized. That was at 91,000 miles. I eneded up swapping in a rear axle from a 94 K1500. That axle had only 50,000 at the time.
The other major issue I had was with the transmission. I had to have it rebuilt twice in the 30,000 miles I've owned it. Granted I do a fair amount of towing, but twice was a excessive. I also replaced the ball joints, wheel cylinders, all 4 02 sensors, u-joints, and the door latch on driver'* door. I haven't had the braking issues, however.

im a mechanic and the only real problems i've seen, as with most chevy trucks...fuel pumps, water pumps, alternators and intake gaskits..and watch out for fuel pumps...they are huge money, sometimes 300-500 dollars just for the pump...but other then those they are decent

Tonight for all of the "real" pictures.
I did talk to him on the phone about an hour ago and were going to meet up tonight to look at it.
He has replaced the intake gasket and a few other things.
KBB private value is ~10K. He is willing to part with it for 8K
