93 Grand Prix dying at the light...
My friend has a '93 Grand Prix that keeps dying when she stops at a traffic light.
From how she described it, when she pulls up to a light, the car begins to idle turns rough, and the spedo and voltage meter jump around. If she puts the car in neutral, it runs a bit smoother and the rough idle and jumping needles lessen and the car doesn't die. If she leaves it in gear, it dies, but then starts right back up.
Her mechanic told her it was a fuel issue, and said he replaced her fuel filter, cleaned her injectors, and gave the car a full tune up. She didn't even get it home before it died at the second light she hit.
She took it back to him and he took it to the local Pontiac dealership and had them run a diagnostic. He said they told him it checked out fine, and he thinks it might be bad gas.
Anybody experience anything similar to this?

That was my first though. My Bonny did that when one of her coil packs was going out, but I would think that the dealship'* scan tool would pick that up....

Did the stealership ever remove and clean the TB as well as the IAC Tip and passage?
This will require a new gasket and you have to be careful not to snap off the nipples for the coolant lines.. I think they are plastic, Could be wrong memory isn't serving me on the 3.1 right now..
But a lot of Idle and hard start issues could be Throttle body related...
Once its all back together, and you reconnect the battery it may take a handful of seconds for the ECM to figure out how to idle.... after it warms up you'll want to take it for a spin above 40 mph in TCC lock so that the ECM will relearn the IAC position..
Also how does the car run once shes moving?
Does it start easy in the morning?
Do the issues only happen when the engine is warm? Or does it happen all of the time no matter what?

I don't think they checked the Throttle Body. Her mechanic told her to bring it back. I will tell her to suggest the TB to him.
She says she has had no problems starting it, and it idles ok when it is cold, and when the car is in motion, it runs fine.
She said it usually starts once she gets about 5 minutes down the road to the first major traffic light and is much worse if she stays in Drive. Shifting to Neutral seems to help keep it from stalling...

LOL.
The Grand Prix is not mine. It belongs to a friend of mine.
My Bonny is definitely a beater though. Lots of dings, ghetto spray painted wheels, and typical fading GM clear coat. None of that makes her any less fun to drive. If anything, it makes her MORE fun. I can park up close to the jerk who is over the line, and make him get in on the passenger side!
