Default Accord won't lock..

Since my grandma wanted her 98 back, and Nikki'* parents needed their Town and Country back, we've got her grandparents' Honda Accord. The spare set of keys does not have a remote. If you hit the power lock button, all the doors lock, then the driver'* door unlocks a few moments later. What the hell... that'* annoying. I suppose it'* supposed to keep you from locking your key in, but the only way to lock it is to use the key from the outside. No wonder Hondas are stole so much, people don't realize their door isn't really locked.

Is there a trick to make it stay locked? Tried holding the button down, using the actual lock, holding it down, pushing repeatedly... the damn thing just keeps poppin' back up like a really annoying ex-girlfriend...

pull the handle that opens the door from inside the car like you're opening the door and push the lock manually while still pulling the door handle. hmmm try to make some sense of that...

That anti-lock feature sealed the deal for me a few years ago when buying a car for my now ex-wife. I had to drive 20 miles to her 4-5 times a year because she locked the keys in the car at work/the store/happy hour. Never happened with the Acura. I never even considered checking to see if it could be changed, like the newer GMs can be. Can we assume you checked the owners manual?

It'* an accord, let it get stolen so they can take the insurance money and buy a bonneville.

That is a peculiar situation with the locks. I say just lock it outside with the key.

Typically if the keys are in the ignition, this is a feature to prevent you from locking keys in the car.

I don't think it should be doing that :o

Other cars (the Cressida was this way), for the front doors you have to pull the exterior handle up while closing the door. Let go after you close the door. If you don't pull on the handle, the moment you close the door, the lock pops up.
