Default Antivirus

I'm looking to see what kind of antivirus people use, and what you think is the best. I usually go without, as I'm a competent computer user and haven't encountered viruses, but I do help a lot of friends and don't really know what the best option is.
Personally, I like Symantec and I usually use the corporate edition for my friends that are computer savvy and for laptops (because it'* non-evasive and doesn't waste resources) and I use Norton for users I think are likely to encounter viruses.
