2001 Buick Century
My father in law'* 3.1 Century'* Service Engine Light came on couple of days ago and was hoping I could diagnose it. Unfortunatly I would need a OBD 11 scanner with the proper cable which I don't have. Is that correct?

That'* what a 10 hour drive for me, my FIL won't even drive his car to the corner store now cause he think'* it'* going to hurt the car with that light on.
Thanks for the reply vital49, unfortunatly I don' t have one of those so I'll phone him and tell him to pay the $60.00 to $95.00 to get is scanned.

almost every auto parts store will pull codes for free. I would go that route instead of paying for it.
If he is uncomfortable driving it to the store, most of them will also rent out that equipment, and if you tell them your situation, will probably just hold your check or whatever until you bring it back. Kind of a free rental program really. At least thats how some of them do it around here, Ive rented several hundred dollars worth of tools, brought them back within 24 hours, and not had to pay a dime.

We don't have any retailer that will offer this service, I've looked high and low for members around here that have no, and no one has heeded my call.
I'm buying one though, this weekend.

In Canada, there is no auto parts store or service center that will pull codes for free. That service is only available in the US. The dealer normally charges $95.00 to pull codes, Service centers are around $60.00.
