The Explorer is acting up in the clutch/gearbox/driveline area. Felt like it was slipping going from a stop. Put her in 4wd and that seemed to help things. Good news is my friend can hook me up at the dealer with a new clutch for relativly cheap.
Oh well.... The clutch went out on my sister'* ranger at similar milage.

I agree with clutch, rear end going out would in the least howl like crazy, or you would hear gears grinding and crunching, but not act like it was slipping.
