Default 6,000 miles in 10 days.... Western tour 2009

Hey guys, newbie here.
My name is Bryan, thought id post in and fill you in on our summer vacation last week.

We live in kansas city, thats right on the norther boarder of kansas and missouri.

I spent a few weeks tinkering on the car getting it ready for the trip( we have owned the car since 1995), new blower oil, oil change, trans flush and fill, airing up the tires, checking the brakes, tinting the windows, fixing a small transmission leak, converting the car to 134a , pulling the blower motor out and finding ALOT OF DEBRIS in the heater core, (go figure the ac blows harder/more air from the vents now.) new wipers and battery, checking the spare tire and accessories for all the goodies.

Family vacation started thursday the 13th of this month, loaded up the 1992 bonneville ssei, it is 99.9 % stock and had 82,122 miles on it at the beginning of the trip.

3 of us, Me 33 Dad 57 Mom 56 y/o

I will give the short short version

Kansas City straight to Roswell New Mexico wow the roads were rough in oklahoma!
Drove into roswell, then down to carlsbad new mexico.. enjoyed the carlsbad caverns.
Back up to roswell and went to the roswell museum and the alien exibit. pretty straight to the point.
Day 2 roswell down to the white sands national park White Sands National Monument (U.*. National Park Service)

, talk about alot of white sand out by the mountains, very cool to see. I didnt expect the camera speed trap, crossing fingers that i dont get the speeding ticket in the mail.
Past albuquerque over to gallup and crashed for the night.

Day 3 gallup nm towards the painted desert and came out of the petrified forest Petrified Forest National Park (U.*. National Park Service). If you have never been there, you MUST go and see it, this is the old ROUTE 66 TOUR GUYS, TOTALLY AWESOME TO SEE THIS!!

Do you remember the animated movie CARS that came out Pixar - Cars
When you travel out of the petrified forest, and head back toward highway 40, you go through a small town that literally is the spitting image of what you would have seen in the movie. I think it was holbrook??? TEEPEE Hotels with old cars parked next to them, old shops right on route 66, they should change the name to radiator springs.

On down the highway 40 to the largest meteor crater in the world ( remember the movie starman) ?
Meteor Crater - Home
4000 feet across and 550 feet deep.

Drove toward the grand canyon, checked it out, back down to cross the hoover dam towards vegas. Get to vegas and check into the MGM right on the strip.
Day 4 and day 5 Golden nugget, in and out burger , long island ice tea'*, ceasers palace, mgm, shopping. Money out and more money back in my wallet

Day 6 Vegas towards LA.
Stopped in a greek diner on the side of the road, the meat was great, but the sauce needed less chunks of cucumber at 10am in the morning. Boarder patrol lady earlier laughed alot because i opened the cooler and had "soda pop" in it?.....
Guessed i could have called it soda water or cola, or pop, or coke, or pop fizz...

Headed to HOLLYWOOD and the chinese theater. Man what a bunch of freaks., there was alot to look at, and i just didnt get it. Got out of there as soon as possible, and made a bee line toward the PCH.
Thats highway 1 guys, man that was a blast, right off the coast line for miles and miles and miles. California State Route 1 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

We ate at neptunes net, its in malibu right on the route 66. Really neat, walk in, grab a beer out of the quick trip glass doors, order the food. Fish and chips. Darned good food, and right on the shore too. Its been featured in fast and furious and point break.
Probably more movies too....Neptune'* Net Seafood Restaurant - Malibu, CA

Slept at some hotel before san fran sisco. I was done driving.
Day 7 Drove the city streets in san fransisco and enjoyed the fishermans warf, wow it was neat, very cool to see alcatraz Alcatraz Island (U.*. National Park Service)

Headed all the way up to the red wood national forest.

I knew that these trees were big, i had no idea you could drive thru one..

Well, gotta run,... but 3000 miles to go, yellowstone, devils tower, mount rushmore, and over 3000 pictures.

The bonne didnt break down, and im tired of mountains!
