Default Hello. New to the board

Hello. My name is Jason. I am a Certified Automotive Technician in Saginaw, Michigan. I have a 95 Bonneville SE 3.8 */2 as well as a Custom 76 Harley and a hopped up Polaris Scrambler.
I have spent the last couple of weeks rebuilding the motor on my bonnie. The upper intake failed and hydrolocked my motor. I put a new upper intake on, had the heads rebuilt and the lower intake cleaned. Got the motor back together, flushed the oil and coolant several times and drove it around for a night. I got 70 miles on it before a rod started knocking. I had to pull the motor for a full rebuild. All new bearings and seals, reground crank, reconditioned rods, new pistons, rehoned block, new oil pump and timing set. Just got my parts back from the machine shop yesterday and am in the process of putting it back together.
During this second rebuild, I did some minor modifications. I gasket matched, ported and polished the heads and lower intake. Did some modifications to the runners in the upper intake. Polished the rods, Blocked the coolant passages to the TB. And am making a custom 2 1/4" header for the front manifold. I also plan on a 180 t'stat, u-bent delete, and custom cold air intake before its all together. I have a t-28 turbo that i plan on eventually putting on the bonnie. I need to get more parts together for that project though.
Are there any other little "tricks or mods" for the N/A series 2 that could benefit me at this point. I am a bit of a horsepower junky, but am new to the 3800 as far as performance mods go. I would like to get around 400hp with the turbo setup, but that is a ways away. Anything that I can do for now as a cheap or free mod would be great. What kind of options do I have as far as injectors or throttle bodys gor for my current application. Or would I be better off waiting untill I go with the turbo setup? I dont want to have to mess with the PCM at this point either. The rebuild has cleaned me out of extra funds for awhile. Thanks guys

Thanks for the welcome.
I was under my car today and noticed that mine does not have the u-bend. Sweet!! It also does not have a rear o2 sensor either. Hmmmm. That cat may have to go bye bye then.

Bonnevilles don't have the nasty U-bend the W-bodies got. You don't have to worry about that.

Being that you already modified the runners on your UIM, you may want to go back and sleeve the EGR area rather than replace it outright.

More information on that:

Thanks for the good info guys. I have the Doorman UIM. It comes with the different size pipes. I will have to put the small one in now.

Where is the best place to have the PCM reprogramed at? Would it be worth putting the L67 injectors and a bigger TB and MAf sensor in at that time too? Or is it overkill? And whats the "gutted Airbox" about? What do you take out of it. I was also thinking of making my own CAI. It doesnt look like it would take much.

As far as the manifold goes, I do a LOT of exhaust work at my shop. So making a front header is not too bad. My manager is a big horsepower junky. He has a 700 horse trans am as well as a couple of 800+ horse sled pulling trucks. So he is all about it. We may even make a rear header to. And instead of having a crossover, have the front and rear pipes meet at a y-pipe at the downpipe. It should help the flow more.

Welcome to the club!

L67 injectors def. would be overkill. However, using the S2 L67 coilpacks will benefit you (the coils with the blue tab underneath them) with that P&P manifold. Jrs3800 noticed an improvement to this motor after I gave him mine

As for your chip, you may want to look up Curt Martin on this forum (clm2112). He reflashed his chip with excellent results, and could either do it for you or give you pointers on how to.

www.gmtuners.com will burn you a chip, but you have to know EXACTLY what you want ahead of time.

L67 injectors won't work on your car, and we don't have any L36 owners here even remotely close to flowing enough to need them. Your car might not even run with them.

There are some improvements that can be made to the TB, but changing the MAF sensor isn't going to gain you anything either. All it does is read what comes in. Some people switch to the 99 and newer TB without the MAF support (also requires a different MAF sensor). A few are also running shaved throttle shafts for better throttle snap and response. Be VERY careful before doing that, and make sure you ask questions.
