Default Hey, I'm new to these forums

I dont have a bonneville, but my car is pretty much the same thing. I drive a 97 Oldsmobile EightyEight LS all black exterior, black leather interior with wood trim, brand new kenwood cd deck. It'* got the 3800 series 2 engine, it'* N/A so no supercharger, i might supercharge/turbocharge it in the future, but i have no money for such things right now. I might possibly do some low cost mods to it though. I got it for a steal from my dad, basically I just had to pay for a transmission rebuild. My tranny hasnt been rebuilt yet, but I have all the parts sitting in my trunk, and i'm thinking it'* gonna cost less than 600 bucks total for the entire rebuild including labor.

I was kind of wondering how these cars hold up to a little bit of rough driving (doing shitties and donuts in parking lots) and other stuff, i know the 3800 series engines are pretty much bullet proof, but how do the cars hold up?

my car is in great shape too, every problem that'* occured has been taken care of and it'* been perfectly maintained.

Edit: Woah woops, sorry about posting in the wrong section of the forums, thanks for moving.

Welcome!
Yeah, the Series2 is a strong motor, but you should know that the 4T65E tranny can be a bit temperamental. The 4T65E-HD would be a good upgrade, seeing as you're already doing a rebuild anyway, and you're talking about running it hard. How many miles are on the car?

Also, if you don't already know, the Series2 N/A motors are prey to upper intake manifold failures. You should have that checked before too long, and think about getting the replacement UIM that GM sells now.

Other than that, your 88 should last you for a good long time. And that black/black color scheme sounds beautiful.

Oh, BTW, THIS THREAD IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT PICS!!!

HAHAHA, yeah, i'll get some pics up once my car gets washed and the weather is a bit more favorable, i really cant do much about the tranny right now, all the parts are purchased, but the cars got 108,000 miles, and everything is in top shape.

oh, before i forget, know anything about removing the governor?

i'm thinking that might be the reason why i cant hold a burnout for very long, once my car revs up to about 4000 rpm'* in park or spinning my tires in snow or something it drops the revs, even with my traction controll turned off.

Welcome to the club! Sounds like a sweet car you've got there!

BTW, you should NEVER rev up the car to 4,000 RPMs in park. That'* the worst thing you can do for the engine. There'* no reason to ever rev up the car in park. In Drive...that'* a different story because the engine'* under a load.

my wheels are dirty as heck, but the rest of my car is squeeky clean, just took it to a car wash and got the dirt off, then waxed myself, it'* still too cold out to wash it by hand.

i love how the wax job turned out, but i have a lot of scratches on my car
