Default I'm the new guy

Hey all! I just picked up a 1994 SSE for my wife. I'm coming over from the EpHatch website (2002+ Civic SI). I go through vehicles like mad. Hopefully, I can keep this for at least two years. My other vehicle is a 97 Explorer. I have plans on making the Bonneville safer to drive, handle better, and maybe a hair quicker. I've read over the site, and a 180 degree thermostat is in the works, and I'll be looking for an air intake as well. My Explorer will be heavily modified. Feel free to chime in your two cents. Is the 94 model a decent one, or are there some things I should worry about?

Welcome to the party.

You should be fine with the engine thats in the 94 normally aspirated 3800 engine. You don't have to worry about the plastic intake manifold problems. Good call on the 180 t-stat and for intake options, check out some of our vendors.

Enjoy your stay and enjoy the car, I hope you get more then 2 years out of it....

Whoa, quick reply. Know where I can get engine specs on the car? I saw a post that mentioned 180hp/205lb-ft, but that seems odd. This car seems a lot quicker. Also, looking for weight, oil specs, etc...

I don't have my magic book yet. But I do have a Chiltons

Hmmm

1994 SSE 3.8 L SFI V6. Since you are not SC'd you have 170HP @ 4400 RPM, 220 ft-lbs @3200RPM with a Compression ratio of 8.5:1

The HP is generally low, but the torque makes up for it.

Some 3800 nicknames: Torque-monster and Bulletproof

Horsepower sounds cool but Torque wins the race!

Nosjunkie?

Do you have a web server or a cardomain account? If you have one or the other you can post pictures. Be sure to keep them under 40kb for our dial-up members. Please...

Read this thread...it should explain everything and more for pic posting

Welcome to the forum! Hope you enjoy your 2-year stay

We'll do what we can for you. You might want to start up in Techinfo. There'* a wealth of info up there.

The NA (non-supercharged) Series1 3800 is decieviingly low on hp, but is a torquey monster. Full of surprises. After you open that sucker up a bit, you'll really love it. One of the ultimate sleepers, and a bit of 'luxury with attitude' to go with it.

Oh well, I'll cancel the pictures. I was just going to attach a few shots of the projects I've done. I've had a lot of interesting vehicles, and my family and friends are always curious to see what I buy next. Since I started this thread, I'd just like to publically give a little info. I grew up in Pittsburgh PA, went to college for two years locally, dropped out, joined the Air Force, and now live in NC. I was first in Tacoma Wa where I met my wife, then in Fairfield CA for a few years. I've always had some kinds of sports cars, or sporty cars(Mr2'*(lots of them), mustangs, Integras, Civic Si'*, etc...), but my family is growing so fast, I need a back and a 4 door. I'm sure a lot of you know what I mean. On the same day I got the Bonneville, I also got a 97 Explorer sport for myself, and joined there website as well. I tend to o overboard and trick out my cars in every way, but tastefully, no clear tail-lights, cut coil springs, etc...I'm not going to say I keep them legal, I had my old Mustang running 14 lbs of boost everyday with drag radials on the street, and 150hp shot of NOS brand nitrous before that. It'd scare the heck out of people when I'd hit the nitrous going down the street. Anyhow, that'* me.
