Default Hi, just bought an '83 Bonneville!

What'* up everyone. I just bought a 1983 Bonneville for $250, it'* in good shape despite the price, only 70k! I'm getting to know the car, just got it today, seems to have some electrical problems. I have a 1987 Chevy Caprice sport coupe that occasionally needs work so it shouldn't be too hard to fix up since they're similar. The car is a grayish green with a matching vinyl top and gray interior. It'* a nice color, I never saw it before. I used to have a '70 El Camino basketcase so I'm pretty familiar with older cars. My site is http://www.freewebs.com/shawn668304. I still need to add my two other cars yet.

Anyway, are there many people here with those mid-80'* Bonnevilles? Are they unusual? That'* cool that they're considered classics in here. I also like the 90'* lineup Pontiac had, the Grand am, Prix, all of them, even the 90-96 Trans Sport. BTW, my name is Shawn, I live in NY and I'm 21. See ya in the forums

Welcome to the club. We can always use more pre-87s around here. Are you thinking of modding it?

Wow! Didn't realize they continued to make the Caprice coupes in the late 80'*. My dad'* first brand new car when he came to America was a '78 Caprice coupe. He liked the taillights better on the '79 when they came out, so he traded it in. Two tone silver and gray with gray interior, and fully, fully fully loaded. Power seats, mirrors, moonroof, etc. AND....the kicker....it had the wicked looking extended back window! I LOVED how that looked. Totally changed the appearance of the car.

He had it up until '96 I think it was. Still in VERY good shape, except the bottoms of the doors had rusted out, and at that point and time, good look finding replacements. :( He was just as nuts with keeping everything looking new (replaced the grill if there was so much as a scratch on it, newer, bigger Chevy emblems, etc), but this was before the eBay crazy, so he paid full price at the dealer for everything.

Anyway, both your cars look REALLY clean! Keep them that way, and good luck with them.

Default Thanks!

Yep the Caprice coupes were made up until 1987, only 3,110 made that year. I love that car, I get all the NOS trim I can for the car too lol . The Bonneville needs a little more work than the Caprice, but it'* mostly in appearance. The paint faded and it could use a vinyl top. Hopefully I can get some more life out of the faded lacquer for a while with some color sanding and buffing. I always loved the g-body'* style and proportions so seeing this for sale I had to have it! It was sitting in a parking lot next to a side street and after I checked it out I was hooked. I'm so glad to have it now!
As far as mods go, I'd like to drop in a V8- but try to make it look like it came from the factory that way somehow. I never did that before though, so modding the V6 is my only option right now. I'd like to add custom wheels and dual exhaust, but with the V6 I wonder if it'll sound alright :? The last owner painted the steel wheels behind the wire covers red- it looks sorta cool, is that how it was originally?
